🦆 Billionaire sends AI warning

PLUS: Bing chatbot introduces features faster than ChatGPT.

Hey man,

The inconsistency in Melbourne weather is just like The Daily Quack’s upload schedule. Sorry, a duck brother has to go to university.

Here’s the AI rundown for today:

  • Billionaire Warren Buffet says AI is like a nuclear bomb 🤯

  • Bing chatbot can make restaurant bookings, video answers and more 🔎

  • 50+ news websites are generated by AI? 🌐

  • Microsoft, AMD collaborate to make AI computer chips 🖥️

Safe from AI, but implications remain 😮

While there won’t be any terminators around, we must remain diligent with AI safety.

Same but different: Warren Buffet has taken to the media saying that the recent boom of AI is comparable to the invention of the atomic bomb.

That while it won’t lead to making humans obsolete or wipe us out, it can have massive implications in the tech space.

"It can do all kinds of things, and when something can do all kinds of things, I get a little bit worried,"

Warren Buffet

Buffet has often mentioned atomic warfare as one of his biggest fears. Hence, his comparison of AI to nuclear weapons stands as a stern warning.

This becomes particularly important after the recent rise in concerns over AI regulations and safety.

Bing grows smarter by the day 🧠

Growing parallel with ChatGPT, Bing starts to create an opportunity to grow past Google with AI.

ChatGPT within Bing? With Bing’s new update shifting from private to public preview (meaning anyone can access it), you can now complete tasks without navigating through multiple pages through the chat interface such as:

  • Making restaurant bookings

  • Searching and opening movies across the web

  • Conducting academic research

Plugins! While GPT-4 plugins remain in beta testing where users must apply for access in a long queue, Bing plugins are available for integration in your browser from today.

For example, you can now use WolframAlpha within Bing Chat to to visualise maths.

More plugins are arriving, giving more users a taste into how plugins will work in ChatGPT.

AI generated news websites provide fake info 📰

LIES AND DECEIT!

Interesting word choice bro: Many growing news platforms have been using AI to generate their articles.

The one major downside, the posting of fake facts and bizarre wording.

Here’s an example from celebritiesdeaths.com

“Breaking news from celebritiesdeaths.com: the president is dead. Biden dead. Harris acting president… Biden passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

Looks fake, sounds fake, it’s fake. 😅

NewsGuard, a website tracking down misinforming websites, has placed celebritiesdeaths amongst 49 other websites entirely automated by AI.

These poorly generated sources have also left a paper trail of their AI-ness. Often forgetting to delete certain sections of their ChatGPT responses such as:

“I cannot complete this response” or “as an AI language model I am unable…”

Fully AI generated articles have been on the rise. We think that brainstorming and generating creative ideas with AI is awesome, but poorly automated sources could lead to mass misinformation!

Microsoft and AMD super-project 💻️

Lending a helping hand.

Microsoft are allegedly helping AMD develop a series of artificial intelligence AI processors in an effort to compete against Nvidia’s AI tech.

Codenamed Athena, $2 billion has already been invested into the project.

What do AI processors do, Quack? These AI processors are similar to the chips found in laptops, computers and phones. Except, designed to help manage the high volume and intense workloads required to compute AI processes.

These chips will then be used in large scale AI centres to help make further technological advancements in the field.

The AI boom has led to a decrease in stock for these chips hence the need to create in-house versions.

Meanwhile, Google and Amazon have developed their own alternatives to manage this shortage crisis and power their projects.
