🦆 Meet Phoenix, the Household Robot

NOW: Miyazaki-esque AI films

Hey man,

You’ve made it to the middle of the week! Happy hump day!

Here’s the AI rundown for today:

  • Movie critics react to AI generated films 🎥

  • Meet the robot who will do your household chores 🏠

  • Real or Fake: AI edition 🤫

  • Political advertisements must disclose any AI use 👩‍⚖️

  • Duck Duck Goose 😂

And the Oscar goes to… artificial intelligence! 🎞

Or not.

AI movie creation isn’t something new. In fact, they’ve been around since AI editing tools were invented.

But have you seen a movie generated entirely by AI? 🎬

BBC Tech released a video wherein two film critics, Rhianna Dhillon and Marc Cieslak watch, and react to AI generated films (ie. still images that have been animated on top of). The films they reviewed included a short movie, advertisement and even a ‘Miyazaki inspired’ animation. 🎈

“The proportions are very, very wrong.”

Marc Cieslack, BBC Technology

Films such as these pose the question on whether movie executives care more about originality or money, especially as the latter is the bottom line for many employees in the film industry. 👀

Phoenix - the handy AI helper 🤖

I wonder if they’ll ever create a duck-sized one for me…

Sanctuary AI is on a mission to create the world’s first human-like AI robots, and address many of the labour challenges faced in the workforce today.

AND SO. They have developed a human-sized (5’7 to be exact) robot named Phoenix, which has already been deployed in two retail stores for tasks like merchandise bagging and cleaning.

“Every month, there are new developments in the AI world that can fundamentally change and advance the space.”

Geordie Rose, founder of Sanctuary AI

Sanctuary envisions that within the next decade, robots like Phoenix, or their successors, will become household essentials - performing a wide range of chores and tasks currently done by humans. This development could potentially revolutionise the way millions of people approach domestic work and daily responsibilities.

Some of Pheonix’s impressive traits are that it:

  • Has hands that operate entirely identical to a humans

  • Is trained to do tasks via virtual reality

  • Runs and ‘thinks’ on Carbon AI software

What do you think about this? Is there a cross to the line wherein AI takes over human jobs?

An effort to tame political unrest 🚩

All in time for the next US presidential election…

Google has announced new rules requiring political ads on its platforms to disclose when images and audio have been generated using AI.

The company already has strict guidelines for political ads on its platform to maintain trust in the election process. These prohibit any false claims that could undermine confidence in elections. 😵‍💫

Any digitally altered content in election ads must have clear and noticeable disclosures. Examples of content includes synthetic imagery or audio depicting a person saying or doing something they did not actually do or representing events that did not occur. This ensures transparency and prevents misleading information during political campaigns. 🗳

If you’re more of a visual learner:

These regulations are set to take effect in November this year. 🗓

Duck, duck… Goose!
