🦆 Skip Online Meetings Without Consequences

BREAKING: Brainsssss... zombie robots

Hey man,

Just waddling my way through life…

Here’s the AI rundown for today:

  • A soft robot built to navigate complex mazes 👾

  • Google’s AI will attend online meeting for you ⏰

  • Get any concept explained as if you were five 👦

  • ChatGPT’s Day in the Life 😆

  • Duck Duck Goose 😂

Researchers create ‘brainless’ bots 🤕

ZOMBIE BOTS!!

Researchers at North Carolina State University have developed a 'soft robot’ that could navigate complex puzzles and mazes without human or computer direction. 🤸‍♀️

In their prototype works, the robot could only move straight and had to encounter an obstacle to activate its turn signal. This led to it occasionally getting stuck in between obstacles.

Now, they have created something called this ‘physical intelligence’ meaning that the robot's design and materials dictate its actions! Isn’t that crazy! 🤯

These soft robots are asymmetrical and made from special materials called liquid crystal elastomers. ❄️ When placed on a hot surface (at least 55 degrees celsius), they contract on only one side and not the other, causing the robot to roll.

"This work is another step forward in helping us develop innovative approaches to soft robot design - particularly for applications where soft robots would be able to harvest heat energy from their environment.”

Jie Yin, member of the NCSU research team

The hotter the surface, the faster it rolls. Watch a demo of the robot here! 🤖

Running late? AI can help with that

If only this existed during lockdown…

Google Meet (Google’s video chat system) is now integrating Duet AI. 🎊

The application includes a whole host of features:

  • It can automatically improve the look, lighting and sound of a video caller

  • Generate captions in 18+ languages in real time translations

  • AI can ‘watch’ the meetings and create playbacks for the user

The last feature is a stand out. Users can even delegate note taking, so that an automatically generated summary of the meeting is sent to attendees when it concludes. 📤 Even if someone arrives late to a meeting, they’ll be able to see a ‘summary so far’ that catches them up with everything that has been said.

Don’t want to attend the meeting at all? You can choose the ‘attend for me’ option, which sends the AI to the meeting on your behalf, passing on any messages or inputs and then sending a recap after it is over. 👏

Despite recent concerns about AI in meetings, Google assures that Duet AI interactions are private, and your data isn't used to train AI models without your permission. 📵

ChatGPT story prompts: A day in the life of…

Quack will ask my best friend ChatGPT to write short stories for your entertainment. 🐣

The casual morning routine of a robot. GPT style.

Activation: The robot's morning begins with its internal clock triggering its activation. Its systems power up, and it goes through a series of self-checks to ensure all components are functioning correctly. 🌆

Data Retrieval: If the robot relies on external data sources, it connects to the internet or other data networks to retrieve the latest information relevant to its tasks for the day. This could include weather updates, news, or any other data important to its operations. ⛅️

Maintenance and Self-Repair: If the robot detects any minor issues during its diagnostics, it may perform self-repairs or notify its human operators of the need for maintenance. 🛠

Initialisation of Tasks: Finally, the robot begins executing its planned tasks. It may start with routine chores like environmental monitoring, security patrols, or data collection, depending on its designated role and responsibilities. 📲

Throughout its morning routine, the robot aims to ensure it is in optimal working condition and fully prepared to carry out its designated tasks efficiently and effectively. This level of automation and precision is what makes robots valuable assets in various industries and applications.

Duck, duck… Goose!
