Researchers create ‘brainless’ bots 🤕

Researchers at North Carolina State University have developed a 'soft robot’ that could navigate complex puzzles and mazes without human or computer direction. 🤸‍♀️

In their prototype works, the robot could only move straight and had to encounter an obstacle to activate its turn signal. This led to it occasionally getting stuck in between obstacles.

Now, they have created something called this ‘physical intelligence’ meaning that the robot's design and materials dictate its actions! Isn’t that crazy! 🤯

These soft robots are asymmetrical and made from special materials called liquid crystal elastomers. ❄️ When placed on a hot surface (at least 55 degrees celsius), they contract on only one side and not the other, causing the robot to roll.

Google Meet (Google’s video chat system) is now integrating Duet AI. 🎊

The application includes a whole host of features:

• It can automatically improve the look, lighting and sound of a video caller

• Generate captions in 18+ languages in real time translations

• AI can ‘watch’ the meetings and create playbacks for the user

The last feature is a stand out. Users can even delegate note taking, so that an automatically generated summary of the meeting is sent to attendees when it concludes. 📤 Even if someone arrives late to a meeting, they’ll be able to see a ‘summary so far’ that catches them up with everything that has been said.

Don’t want to attend the meeting at all? You can choose the ‘attend for me’ option, which sends the AI to the meeting on your behalf, passing on any messages or inputs and then sending a recap after it is over. 👏

Despite recent concerns about AI in meetings, Google assures that Duet AI interactions are private, and your data isn't used to train AI models without your permission. 📵
