Eye scans predict Parkinson’s disease 👁

AI leaps and bounds within the medical world!

Scientists have achieved a groundbreaking feat by developing AI-based eye scans capable of detecting early markers of Parkinson's disease up to seven years before symptoms manifest.

This marks the first time such early detection has been achieved for the condition! WOW!

Retinal scans are valuable for monitoring eye health, but their significance goes beyond that. They provide a non-invasive means to visualise layers of cells beneath the skin's surface, making them uniquely useful.

In the study, researchers discovered that a reduction in the thickness of these cell layers was associated with an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease.

Furthermore, scientists have begun harnessing the power of powerful computers and AI technology to rapidly and accurately analyse large quantities of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and other eye images, significantly speeding up the process compared to human analysis.

Spotify clarifies its stance on AI music 🎶

Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify, has stated that he does not intend to fully prohibit content created by artificial intelligence from the music streaming platform. He believes there are valid applications for AI in music, but it should not be used to imitate real artists without their permission.

Ek categorises AI use in music into three "buckets":

1. Tools like auto-tune, which he finds acceptable

2. Software that impersonates artists, which he does not support

3. A middle ground where AI-generated music is inspired by a specific artist but doesn't directly mimic them

The music industry is not the only one expressing concerns about AI. Irish singer Hozier (remember Take Me to Church?) mentioned the possibility of a strike over AI's threat to the music industry, and several other artists have voiced their worries about technology's role in music creation.

Anthropic’s $4B dollars to expand operations 🤑

Amazon has announced a significant investment of up to $4 billion in Anthropic - an emerging AI startup known for its Claude chatbot - founded by Dario and Daniela Amodei, who have previous ties to OpenAI. 👨‍💻

Meet Claude.

Claude and its advanced version, Claude 2, are large language model-based chatbots similar to ChatGPT and Google's Bard. What sets Claude apart is its ability to autonomously revise responses without human moderation, making it a safer AI tool - which Quack is all for! 👍

In return, Anthropic will use Amazon's custom chips for AI development and will rely on Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary cloud provider. Initially, Amazon is investing $1.25 billion with an option to increase it to $4 billion, potentially becoming the largest publicly-known AWS investment. 💰

This move represents Amazon's strategic effort to strengthen its position in the competitive field of artificial intelligence. 🦾
